McDonnell is a 6-2, 180 lb senior right handed pitcher from Pennsylvania with a solid lower half. He throws from a tall delivery with a short stride and a high 3/4's release point. His arm stroke is short front and back and his lack of extension out front hurts his raw stuff. McDonnell's fastball was 79-81 mph with occasional cutting action. He threw a 63 mph curveball that had a soft, sweeping break to it. McDonnell's 65 mph change up was a good pitch and he could use it more often with good effect. McDonnell showed the willingness to pitch inside and tried to locate his pitches. He also showed some talent as a infielder who profiles to third base. McDonnell has smooth and balanced fielding actions and a quick release that's consistent with his short arm stroke on the mound. He swings the bat pretty well to. McDonnell is also a good student.
