Jonathan Niese is a big good looking 6'3/190 LHP from Defiance, OH. Niese is a highly projectable southpaw and the latest top prospect from tiny Defiance, Ohio. Former PG prospect and first round pick Chad Billingsly was the last. He topped out at 89 mph on his fastball with a very good plane to the plate. He’s got the makings of a very good splitty and he's very mechanically sound. His arm works extremely well, nice and fluid and fast. He has a good balanced delivery and gets lots of run and sink on his heater. His breaking balls, both slider and CB looked sharp. We have reports of Jonathan throwing in the 92-93 range and it's probably very true. He is one of the top LHP prospects in the country and projects out of sight. Very highest level college prospect and possible high draft pick. Jonathan is a very good student.
