2004 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Josh Rickards is a 5'11", 170 lb. left handed pitcher from Glenolden, Pennsylvania, with athletic quickness (6.92-60) and plenty of fast twitch actions. He showed us three quality pitches with an 86 mph fastball, 72 mph curveball, and a 73 mph change up, and most impressively, showed the ability to command each pitch to different parts of the strike zone. Josh's curveball has late and sharp two-plane break, and his change up has nice tailing action. Josh's delivery is very clean and repeatable with very good hip load and balance. His late unloading action adds to deception, and also gives the illusion of sneaky quick velocity. Josh is the type of pitcher who can go through a line up in a big hurry. It's certainly possible that Josh will add more velocity in the future and go from an excellent college prospect to a pro prospect as well. He's an athletic pitcher who can run and play the game.
