Schmidt is a right-hander out of a top California High School who also plays a good infield and switch hits. On the hill he showed why he is so tough to hit. He throws 80-83 mph and touched 84 and his fastball had enough movement to miss most of the bats' sweet spots. He was throwing hard at first and settled into the 80-81 mph comfort range where he hit spots and pitched. As an infielder he has some extra movement that he could quiet down and field through the ball better, but he has a good arm, and the bat worked well from both sides of the plate. His left-handed swing was a little longer but pretty and his right-handed swing showed better hand speed and maybe even bat-speed. Either way, he is an effective player that can do a lot to help a team and seemed to thrive on competing !
