2004 Indoor Pitchers/Catchers Showcase
Matt Kramer: We’d never seen Kramer before and his being right down the road in St. Louis and his being a senior, we weren’t very happy about that. This kid can play. He has an angular 6-2, 195 lb. frame that’s very athletic and has plenty of room to get naturally stronger. Kramer is calm and flexible behind the plate. He caught Tim Radmacher, who may have the best breaking ball in the Midwest (along with a high-80’s fastball), and had no trouble handling his stuff. Kramer throws from a good, compact motion with solid footwork. His velocity was a very good 81-82 mph and his quickness indicated he would probably have been in the 1.85-1.90 if we’d been outside measuring pop times. At the plate, Kramer’s swing is just a bit long but he generates good bat speed and leverage and the ball jumps off his bat in a big hurry. It wouldn’t surprise us if he has hit some long home runs outdoors. Kramer doesn’t pitch much for his high school but took the mound and threw 86 mph with some of the funkiest mechanics we’ve seen in a while. The most impressive thing about Kramer is that the young man has been early accepted into Harvard. He’s eloquent, intelligent and has enough baseball ability to play at any program in the country. Matt scored an unbelievable 1480 on his SAT. He is a pro prospect!
