2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
OF Matt Zonona: Zonona is a right handed hitting junior outfielder from Iowa. He had a good workout on the first day of the Showcase, running a 7.3 60 and throwing 82 mph from the outfield with some carry. Zonona hits with his hands very low and has a low, level swing plane. He made solid consistent pull contact during batting practice and lined singles to left field in his first two game at bats as well. He doesn’t project much power with his swing mechanics and size but looks like he does a good job of handling the bat head. His arm strength didn’t carry over to the mound, though, as he topped out at 75 mph during an inning of work.
