Maurice Wilhelm -- Wilhelm is a physically strong 6-2, 190 lb. junior right hander from California with nice athletic actions. He threw 4 innings in Fort Myers and was a quick, efficient strike thrower. Wilhelm’s mechanics are compact and repeatable with good balance. His fastball stayed steady at 78-81 mph but it looked like there was much more in his arm. Wilhelm varied the break on his 61-67 mph breaking ball and also threw both a straight change and a split finger change at 68 mph. We’re actually not so sure that Wilhelm might be just as good a hitting prospect. He’s strong and generates good bat speed with good balance and leverage to his swing. Maurice is going to hit with some power down the road. It would be worth following him both ways.
