Michael Brady -- Brady is a 6-1 junior shortstop from California who we saw play in October. He’s gained noticeable strength and maturity in his body since then and even though we liked him a lot then, we like him much more now. Brady has smooth actions in the field and solid average arm strength from shortstop. He’ll occasionally stab at the ball a bit but he has tools to stay at the position. We especially like how Brady has developed his bat speed. He’s a front foot hitter who gets good extension through the ball and hits it hard. Brady also took a 2 inning stint on the mound and was very impressive. He sat at 84-85 mph with hard late life to his fastball and was in complete command of his mechanics and his pitches. Brady is definitely a college level pitching prospect in addition to his skills as a position player. He is also a very good student. Keep a close eye on this kid, he has talent.

Brady was the best defensive infielder at the Western Underclass Showcase. He has a balanced, easy approach to the ball and soft, sure hands. His arm is near Major League average from shortstop right now and it’s an easy, fluid arm stroke without extra effort. We were kind of surprised when Brady only threw 82 mph off the mound given the type of arm he showed in the middle of the infield. Brady’s approach at the plate is controlled and mature with good use of his hands. He’s short to the ball and uses the right side of the field well. When he adds some strength to his 160 lb. frame, he’ll be able to handle upper level pitching very well. Brady is a 7.07 runner with a good running stride. He's also a good student.
