LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Nicholas Christopher is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Cathedral HS, residing in Beaumont, TX. Christopher has an athletic and lean build on a still developing 6'2" 170 lb. frame. His body type is quite projectable, as is his arm. Christopher was ranked #69 among PG National Top 85 pitchers and has a ceiling that is higher than many of them that were ranked ahead of him. He pitches from an over the top slot with a long arm action. On the backside he has some extension toward centerfield and then starts a pretty deliberate arm arc. His arm is strong and is he can somehow work to speed up the time it takes him to start and complete that arm arc, his stuff could make a pretty steep jump upward. He has a bit of a cross body stride which can cut off the hips a bit. Christopher showed a fastball up to 90 mph and ranged 84-89, with good sink. He went in and out, up and down with the fastball, showing an ability to pitch with his fastball. Christopher has a sweeping 75 mph curveball and also showed a change-up. He did a nice job of keeping his offspeed offerings away from hitters and stayed out of the middle. His three pitch mix is good and for the most part, he stayed away with everything... save for the times he did come inside with the fastball to keep the hitters honest. Christopher did not give in to the zone and looked like he is the type that trusts his ability to pitch to the point that he would rather walk a hitter and get the next guy out rather than be forced to come to the middle. He is a D1 caliber pitcher and has a chance to keep gaining fastball velocity. His curveball should get near 80 mph in time, giving him a quality breaking ball to go with feel for the fastball. The pro game is likely in his future after college.
