Patrick Burford is a 2008 OF/RHP with a 6'0'', 200 lb. frame from San Francisco CA, who attends Archbishop Riordan HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. He has a strong build, with a broad upper body and powerful lower half. He is built like a power hitter and performs like one too. Not only does Burford have legitimate power, but he should also hit for average. He has a short power stroke and stays inside the ball. His power plays to all fields. His hands are quite good, accelerating through contact. Burford is a big young man but he runs the bases well and plays hard. He reminded me (Clemmens) of another San Francisco native, Stefan Gartrell (USF and now in Chi Sox org.), but he is a much more disciplined hitter at the same stage of development, though not as athletic overall. Burford is a left fielder. He has a quick release and an accurate arm, with some arm strength. He moves aggressively to the ball. Put him in a college line-up and he should produce pretty early in his career.
