Robert Matthews is a 2006 RHP/IF/OF from American Heritage HS in Boca Raton, FL, with a 6'0", 165 lb. frame. He has long legs with an athletic body and good all-around skills. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with an effortless delivery, but slow and deliberate. His fastball topped out at 84 mph, while working from 81-84 with some arm side life. His secondary pitches are solid and shows a good feel for his change up. He maintains his arm speed on his change up and has some fade and sink to the pitch at 70 mph. His curveball is sharp at 71 mph and he throws it for strikes. Matthews hides the ball well in his delivery and works with good tempo on the mound. He shows pitchability with upside. Offensively he is a right handed hitter who hits with high hands. He has a quick bat and makes solid contact to the pull side. There is strength in his swing and he should develop more power as he advances. At first base he has good arm strength and moves well around the bag with good footwork. Matthews is a two-way prospect with good upside. He is a must follow, and is a good student as well.
