2004 Western Underclass Showcase
Sam is 6'0" with an average frame and strong build with a leaner lower half that has room for added muscle in the future. He is a 2006 grad from LaQuinta, California. Sam has a nice right handed swing and his upper body strength transfers well to his bat. He showed power to all fields and an above average ability to make contact. Sam has the look of a player who will be able to hit at the next level. Defensively, Sam has good athletic balance at first base and made some nice plays on balls in the dirt to show his soft hands. He is fast enough and has enough arm strength that he could play the corner outfield positions for a coach who wants to make sure his bat is in the lineup. Sam also pitched some at the showcase. His delivery was a bit raw but he threw quality strikes from a low 3/4's arm slot with a 81 mph fastball and 72 mph change up.
