2007 California Underclass Showcase
Shawn Miller is a 2008 1B/P with a 6'2'', 170 lb. frame from Valencia CA, who attends Canyon High of Canyon Country. He has a long and lean body reminiscent of a basketball player. Miller showed some feel and ability with the bat, though he still needs more strength before his skills can really stand out. He has an open stance and a nice set-up at the plate, starting with his hands held high and looking very comfortable. He has good hands and loose wrists that will allow him to really whip the bat head through the zone when that strength comes. Presently he showed decent bat control and timing, with a flat swing plane. Miller clears his hips really early in his swing and showed a commitment to a dead pull approach. Defensively his feet work pretty well around the bag and his hands are solid. Miller also pitched. He is a change-of-pace left-hander, with a 66-68 mph fastball that in short stints can really upset the timing of hitters. He is a strong student too.
