Steven Taft is a 2007 RHP/OF with a 6'1'', 160 lb. frame from Encinitas, CA, who attends San Dieguito Academy. Taft has a tall, lean, and athletic frame with projection. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with good arm action and a loose arm. Taft stays inline to the plate with balance over the rubber. There is good tempo in his delivery and he throws strikes. His fastball topped out at 81 mph, while he worked in the 77-81 mph range. Also mixes in a 62 mph curveball with solid break, and a changeup with good arm action. Taft feels comfortable throwing his off-speed pitches in any count. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from a slightly open stance. He takes a short stride with a leg lift trigger and swings with a slight uppercut. Taft is a patient hitter with a good eye at the plate. Defensively he moves well to the ball in the outfield show arm strength and arm speed. Taft is also an excellent student.
