When you first look at Bowman, you don’t initially think “defensive whiz”. At 6-2, 200 lbs, Bowman looks more like slugging corner guy. But we put him at three positions in Lincoln, shortstop, second base and third base and he was arguably the top defender at each position. Bowman glides easily to the ball, has soft sure hands, a quick efficient release from a variety of arm angles and a 55 arm. It’s easy to pigeon hole him right now as a third baseman in the future because of his size, but we’d encourage any scout or coach to let him play himself off the middle infield. As we’ve heard dozens of baseball people say in the past, “If Jeff Kent can play second base……” Bowman’s bat also shows promise and he runs close to MLB average. He makes consistent contact with wood now but he shows power potential. With his approach now, he can best be described a low ball hitter. He should get lots of interest from high level DI programs and pro scouts. Willie is a very good student.
