Zach Jones is a 2007 right hand hitting catcher from Jordan HS, residing in Draper, UT. He has a 6'0" 172 lb. frame that is lean and athletically proportioned, with some remaining physical projectability. A talented player who is continually getting better, Jones ranked #59 among the 2006 PG National Top 100 position players. Jones sets up with a square stance and has quiet hands as he awaits the pitch, with body control through his swing, even with an aggressive swing. His hands stay inside the ball well, allowing the barrel to lag behind. Jones generates bat head speed that accelerates through contact, rather than being expended before. The result is that he showed the ability hit the ball hard to all fields. He has still developing power, with bat speed and a hitting approach that suggest a bright future with the bat. Behind the plate Jones is one of the most athletic catchers in the '07 class. He has a quick transfer of ball to hand, making up for average raw arm strength. His throws track low and generally were on the bag. Overall, Jones is a good thrower capable of throwing consistently below 2.0, as a 1.88 toss in the workout suggests Not too many catchers can match Jones' 4.28 home/1st time or his 6.70 60 yard dash. A year ago he looked like a developing D1 prospect but now he is clearly a top level D1 guy and an emerging professional prospect.

Zach Jones is a 2007 C/3B from Jordan HS in Draper, UT, with a 5'11'', 162 lb. frame. He's very lean with a middle infielder's body but has deceptive strength. Jones best present tool is his athletic quickness. He has exceptional speed for a catcher at 6.94 in the 60 and even more impressive quickness behind the plate shifting for the ball and getting rid of the ball on his throws. Jones has solid arm strength at 75 mph and had a best pop time of 1.87. He's very active behind the plate and shows very good flexability as well. He'll grade out as one of the top defensive receivers in the 2007 class. Offensively, Jones hits from a balanced, wide stance and calm approach. He has a short, quick line drive swing and hits through the ball well with his hands. Jones shows gap to gap power and nice bat speed. He lifted a few to show that there may be some home runs in his bat as well. The ball jumped off his bat well and he centered on the ball very consistently. Jones is a top level national follow. He is also a very good student.

Zach Jones is a 2007 catcher from Jordan HS in Draper, UT, with a 5'11", 165 lb. frame. The more you see Jones play, the more you like him and realize there isn't much he can't do. He is a plus defender with arm strength, quick feet, soft hands, great receiving skills, blocks balls well, calls a good game, and plays hard. Jones popped a 1.92 during one of the showcase games and was very accurate with all of his throws. Offensively he is a right handed hitter with very good bat speed and hits everything hard. Jones has a line drive swing path with some present power and will hit for even more power in the future. He centers the ball well and attacks pitches. Jones showed his athleticism and love for the game by playing every position except CF and LF during the showcase games. He has a smooth delivery on the mound with clean arm action. His fastball topped out at 85 mph and he mixed in a 66 mph curveball. As much as Jones might like to pitch, we see his future as a plus catcher who can hit and hit with power. He is a fun player to watch and is a must follow. Jones is also an excellent student.

Zach Jones is a 2007 catcher from Draper, Utah, with a projectable 5'10", 150 lb. frame. Jones is another player who traveled a great distance to show his hitting and catching skills, and he did not disappoint. Jones was good behind the plate, but he was even better with a bat in his hands. He was very light on his feet and moved very well behind the plate. He has a good set up, and showed present college level blocking skills. Jones has a solid throwing release with good arm strength for his age. He is a very good defensive catcher who receives the ball well. Jones is a right handed hitter with very good bat speed and strength in his swing. He has a short bat path with good hand strength and acceleration, and hit everything hard. He has advanced knowledge of the strike zone and doesn't chase any bad pitches. Jones makes it look easy. He was one of the top hitters at the event, and we look forward to seeing him in the future. Jones is a must follow, and is a very good student.
