D.J Henson is a 2006 RHP/C/1B from El Capitan HS in Lakeside, CA, with a 6'4", 228 lb. frame. He is a big, strong kid with strength throughout his body. On the mound his size is impressive and he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot to over the top. He gets a good snap on his curve ball with the feel to get it over for strikes at 69 mph. Henson has good tempo in his delivery with good balance over the rubber, and he finishes off his pitches well. He has good upside on the mound with good present velocity and more to come. The ball comes out of his hand well with a wristy release, and he can hit his spots. We look for him to make a big impact on the mound at the next level. Behind the plate he shows sure hands and agility to move well from side to side, and shows his arm strength on throws. Offensively he is a strong hitter with raw power. Henson gathers well with his body and can generate a great deal of pop when he centers ball well. He projects to be a middle of the order hitter with power that will also hit for average. Henson is a good two-way prospect that needs to be followed, and he is a good student as well.
