Mervyl "MJ" Melendez is a 2017 C/MIF with a 6-1 175 lb. frame from Montgomery, AL who attends St James HS. Slender athletic build, has plenty of wiry strength. 6.85 runner, is the type of athlete who can play all over the field. Very quick and flexible behind the plate defensively, presents a very low target, has a quick transfer and release, outstanding raw arm strength, 1.84 with game actions in drills, will occasionally make the hard play defensively instead of the easy play but will outgrow that, has all the physical tools defensively that you'd want to see. Left handed hitter, upright stance, inside hand path, hits to all fields and has good hand quickness, will flash power occasionally and it is in there to be developed but more a contact approach at present. Son of Florida International coach Mervyl Melendez and verbally committed to that school. Good student. Selected for the Perfect Game All-American Classic.
