Jacob Nix is a 2014 RHP with a 6-3 200 lb. frame from Los Alamitos, CA who attends Los Alamitos HS. Very nice pitcher's build, tall and lean with good present strength. Simple repeatable pitching mechanics, medium arm circle, fast easy arm coming through, 3/4's arm slot, arm is loose and snappy out front, hard downhill plane, uses his lower half well. Steady low 90's fastball, topped out at 93 mph with heavy fastball life, pounded the bottom half of the strike zone and threw to both corners. Nice change up with sink and fade, good arm speed with deception. Still developing feel for curveball, low 70's with soft spin and short 11/5 shape. Only present issue is identifying the proper breaking ball; build, mechanics, fastball, change up and command are all elite prospect level. Verbal commitment to UCLA.

Jacob Nix is a 2014 RHP with a 6-3 200 lb. frame from Los Alamitos, CA who attends Los Alamitos. Tall, long lean athletic build, wiry present strength, good pitcher's build. Pitches from a high three quarters arm slot with a midum arm action. Smooth, well controlled delivery, good athleticism and body control. Arm works well, good fastball command working down in the zone, spotted up several 93 and 94 mph fastballs on the corners, and showed ability to move the ball around the strike zone. Curveball flashed quality potential in 71-74 mph range, needs to be more consistent to put away hitters at the next level, already showing progress towards that end. Showed good changeup in warmups, didn't have need for it in game. High level upside, one of top pitching prospects in 2014 class. Verbal to UCLA.
