Whedbee is a slender 6-3, 170 lb senior lefthanded pitcher from Virginia. He has a nice projectable body and shows some athleticism when he's in the field or at the plate. More strength and physical maturity is going to help him in all areas. Wheedbee throws from a high 3/4's release point. He threw his fastball 76-78 mph and came over and inside the ball in an almost exaggerated way, as if he'd been instructed to turn the ball over and try to sink it. Wheedbee didn't get the kind of sink and run on the ball that would make it worthwhile to do this if that's what he's trying to doing. There looks to be at least a couple of mph's in his arm right now that he's not using if were to stay behind the ball better, improve his leverage and get his movement from grips and finger pressure. One reason that's probably true is that Wheedbee threw a 71-72 mph true curveball that had good spin and a 2-plane break. You can't throw a 72mph curveball without at least a low 80's present fastball arm strength. Wheedbee can improve both physically with strength and with mechanical adjustments and he already looks like he knows how to pitch and spin the ball. He could be a nice sleeper in the right college progarm. Follow closely for improvement. Wheedbee is also a very good student.
