Channy Ortiz is a 2017 SS/2B with a 5-9 150 lb. frame from Phoenix, AZ who attends Apollo. Medium, athletic frame with wiry strength throughout and good physical projection remaining. Ran 7.28 seconds 60-yard dash. Switch hitter, shows open stance from both sides with good overall hand quickness. Shows contact-oriented swing from left side with good ability to spray contact all over the field. A bit more fluid and strong from right side, more direct path with louder contact. Good approach overall to hitting. Excellent defensively, shows good quick feet with excellent range to both sides. Showed athleticism throughout defensive actions, can throw accurately on the run from all arm angles with quick release. Pitched as well, showing quick arm with shorter arm action. FB worked 75-78 with sinking action at the plate, pounded the zone consistently. Elicited weak contact consistently. Showed CB with slurvy 10/4 break and good depth; flashed straighter CH with some feel as well. Very good student, verbal commitment to Grand Canyon.
