2015 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Marco Valenzuela is a 2016 C with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Redondo Beach, CA who attends Redondo Union HS. Large, athletic frame with broad shoulders, high waist, and room to fill out with added strength. Ran a 7.07 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, shows a short arm action behind the plate, fluid transfer and solid arm strength at release with carry to second, gets on top of throws, gains some ground and will continue to lower pop with continued incorporation of lower half. Right-handed hitter, starts with a wide base and a high hand set. Short and direct swing path to the ball with a high finish and shows a line drive swing plane. Upper body swing, incorporates strength into swing, shows carry off the barrel when extended out front. Looks to lift at contact, shows comfort hitting to the middle and opposite parts of the field. Very good student.
