Rafael Fernandez is a 2016 OF/LHP with a 5-10 200 lb. frame from Miami, FL who attends Miami Southridge HS. Compact strong build, good present strength, fairly mature physically. 7.11 runner, has athletic actions in the outfield for his size and build, loose fluid arm action, gets good extension thru his throws with a quick exchange and release. Left handed hitter, hits from a wide base with a stride into contact, toe tap timer is inconsistent, short hands driven swing, has some bat speed and will flash the ability to drive the ball. Also pitched, has a shorter arm action on the mound, cross body mechanics, tends to leave his lower half over the rubber, hides the ball well from a tight 3/4's release slot. Lower 80's fastball, topped out at 82 mph, fastball mostly straight. Short slurve type breaking ball is best at higher velocities, keeps his pitches down in the zone well. Signed with ASA College.
