Jon Merrill is a 2015 RHP/C with a 6-0 165 lb. frame from Fletcher, NC who attends A C Reynolds HS. Athletic build with some present strength and room for more, young look. Smooth balanced delivery, smooth easy arm action, high 3/4's arm slot, stays tall and works downhill. Fastball topped at 81 mph with good angle, mostly straight but consistently low in the zone. Throws two different breaking balls, curveball has sharp 11/5 break and shape, later shorter break on the slider, both good pitches. Nice change up with good sink and feel. Has an idea how to pitch and is going to add velocity with maturity. Young catching tools on defense, tends to set high targets and jab at ball, has arm strength with raw footwork, 2.10 best pop time. Right handed hitter, spread stance, upper half rotational swing, stays short to the ball and makes consistent contact to the middle of the field. Plays hard and competes. Good student. Named to the National Underclass Showcase Top Prospect Team.
