Gilbert Rodriguez is a 2017 3B/ with a 5-11 195 lb. frame from Whittier, CA who attends California. Medium-large frame with good size and strength throughout body. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.83 seconds. Takes his hacks when hitting, swinging the bat hard and looking to drive the ball. Gets onto front side a bit too much at times, but mostly very clean and very quick with big strength off the barrel. Opposite field approach with the ability to drive the ball to all parts of the field. Brings backside well into contact, quick/strong hands, has raw tools to be impact hitter. Showed well defensively at 3rd base. Charges well and consistently made plays coming in on the ball during game. Hand actions are clean when fielding, has looseness in actions and is pretty fluid. Makes accurate throws across the diamond from lower slot release, IF velocity up to 73 MPH. Good student.
