C Brandon Hall: Hall is a senior switch-hitting catcher from Wisconsin who has shown us above average power potential in the past, especially from the left side. He looked like he was having some balance issues swinging the bat at the Showcase and didn’t show his normal swing plane and quickness, though. Hall’s arm strength and release are good and he can consistently turn pop times under 2.00. Hall has signed to attend Lake City CC in Florida next year.

Brandon Hall: Hall showed us again why he could become one of the top catching prospects in the 2004 class. Defensively, this young Wisconsin native has very easy comfortable actions behind the plate and keeps a low and flexible receiving posture with little effort. Hall caught Travis Sweet when Sweet was striking out 10 straight hitters and they worked together like experienced professional teammates. He has a MLB arm from behind the plate, also. For as good as Hall looked on defense, his bat is for sure his best tool right now. He generates very good bat speed and shows both solid bat head skills and plus power from both sides of the plate. Hall does an especially good job of keeping his hands back on breaking pitches and making solid contact. At this time, Hall is the best switch hitter we've seen in the entire country. If pro scouts do not have him high on their list of players in the Upper Midwest to see, they need to update their lists. Brandon put on one of the best hitting displays we've ever seen in our building. That includes many professional players and top national prospects over the past 10 years. Jeff Clement, Brad Nelson, Ryan Sweeney, etc. were all outstanding but never had a day in our cage like Hall.

Hall is a 6 foot 2 catcher with a very well-built 185 pound body. He has a lean muscular build with lots of strength. Defensively he looked solid in all areas. His body is flexible and mobile as he moved around behind the plate easily. He receives well and has ability to get out and fire the ball quickly on his throw downs to second base. He showed velocity up to 82 mph on his throws down to second base. It is a major improvement coming off tommy-john surgery on his throwing elbow last August and he appeared to be 100% of what we saw from him before his injury last year. There is no doubt that he has potential Major League ability defensively, but his bat is the tool that could draw early round consideration. He showed outstanding bat-speed and Big League power with wood right now. His swing showed equally effective from both sides of the plate and he didn't miss many pitches. When he connected the ball showed excellent exit speed and he finishes extremely strong driving through the ball hard. We measured his bat-speed on a laser in the 88 mph range from both right and left-handed. His swing plane is smooth, fast and level with a slight uppercut plane. His swing and power really stuck out at the showcase. He shows lots of emotion at times and will likely control that as he matures. It is an impressive overall package and we think Hall will get lots of draft attention in the next year as switch hitting catchers with Major League power from both sides are rare.
