Jay Smith is a 2021 C/IF, OF with a 5-10 170 lb. frame from Goshen, KY who attends North Oldham. Medium frame with a lean build and beginnings of strength. Primary catcher with a low, side set stance while receiving the baseball. gains some ground while working out of crouched with loose footwork. Clean transfers and released from an extended arm slot. Throws generated some on line carry to the bag at 70 miles per hour, best workout pop time of 2.13. Left handed hitter with an even, balanced stance and simple leg lift trigger. Coils top half slightly at load and worked to contact with linear lower half actions. Clean hand path to baseball with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Displayed good feel for the barrel and consistently squared contact to the middle of the field. Excellent student as well.
