Taylor Hightower is a 2008 C/P with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Cartersville, GA who attends Cartersville HS. He has a strong, mature athletic build of the type that you like to see on a catching prospect. Hightower is an excellent defensive catcher with extensive experience catching pro level type of stuff. His 78 mph arm strength/1.85 pop time in Cincinnati was below average for his standards, but he was an easy 1.87/1.90 in between innings in games as well. Hightower is a very good athlete and that enables him to stay quick and compact in all his catching actions with minimal effort. He's a quiet receiver who makes a very difficult part of the game look easy. Offensively, Hightower doesn't make the game look as easy. He has the strength to create bat speed and is a 6.78 runner, which puts him among the elite as far as catcher's go. But he has a tense approach at the plate that makes him stiff and an upper body rotational swing that limits his hand usage. Hightower shows power when he gets his pitch and can muscle balls over the infield but his approach often leaves him locked up against better pitching. The tools are there to hit and it might take exactly the right hitting coach to find the key. Overall, Hightower is a top prospect on his defense alone and any offense he has is a plus. He's a very good student off the field. Selected to 2007 Aflac All-American team.

Taylor Hightower is a 2008 C/P with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Cartersville GA, who attends Cartersville HS. He has a strong physical build and very good maturity. Hightower's defensive tools are top of the line and will measure up against any catcher in the country in the 2008 class. His best pop time was 1.73 and he had numerous throws in the sub-1.80 area. His casual in between inning throws are in the 1.90's. Hightower combines excellent arm strength with quick feet and quick hands. He has a comfortable set up behind the plate and receives the ball easily. Hightower is a 6.94 runner, impressive for his body type and position and that athleticism definitely is a plus for his defense. Offensively, Hightower has the strength and bat speed to be a very good hitter, especially at his position. He shows easy power in batting practice from a quiet approach. Hightower hits with a closed front shoulder and tends to drift and lunge to pitches while committing early and this combination often leaves his timing off. His offensive improvement against good stuff will be a matter of mechanics and approach, not physical ability. The pro scouts will follow Hightower carefully this summer and throughout his senior year. He also took a turn on the mound and threw 85 mph with a 67 mph curveball. We've seen him throw harder off the mound and he could probably be a 90+ pitcher if he concentrated on that, but there is no reason for him to do that. Hightower is also a very good student. He was named to the showcase Top Prospect Team

Taylor Hightower is a 2008 C/P from Cartersville High School in Cartersville, GA, with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame. Named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. Hightower is a very advanced two-way player with present strength and durability. Defensively he has very good arm strength (77mph) with a quick exchange on his throws to second base. All of these tools helped produce pop times well under 2.00, with a best time of 1.86. He has lower body quickness that allow him to be flexible behind the plate, and help make him a good catch and throw catcher. At the plate he is a switch hitter with a line drive swing, and shows plus bat speed. Hightower is a patient hitter, but when he gets his pitch he takes an aggressive swing. The ball jumps off his bat from gap to gap and he has projectable power. He hits through the ball showing advanced hitting skills. Hightower is also a very good pitcher who throws from a 3/4 arm slot with good arm speed. His fastball topped out at 84 mph, and it is easy to project him as a 90 mph pitcher in the future. He gets arm side run on his fastball, and he mixes in a sharp breaking ball with late break and depth at 70 mph.
