John Paul Dobbs is a 2017 RHP/ with a 6-3 185 lb. frame from Florence, AL who attends Florence. Large frame with lean, athletic present build; very good projection remaining on body for increased strength and size. Primary pitcher with good athleticism on the mound. Big rocker step back into delivery with high leg kick, gathers well at balance point and stands tall on backside. Strides towards right-handed batters box but lands online and clears hips well, long and full arm stroke through the back up to three quarters arm slot, releases cleanly out front with extension. Fastball worked 75-77 MPH with some life to the arm side, pitches to both sides of the plate with the fastball and likes to attack with the pitch. Showed curveball with 10/4, slurvy shape and good sharpness, good depth on the pitch and the command to throw it for a strike consistently. Showed good feel for his split-finger changeup as well, good tumbling action with arm speed and location down in the zone. Got hitters to swing over the top of it. Showed overall quality mix of pitches with command and understanding of sequencing. Excellent student.
