William Lain is a 2018 C/ with a 5-10 180 lb. frame from Lexington, KY who attends Sayre. Medium frame with a solid, athletic build and present strength. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.18 sixty yard dash. Primary catcher, shows a balanced set while receiving that baseball. Gains some ground while working out of crouch to a taller, slightly closed throwing position. Clean glove to hand exchanges while working through transfer. Releases with an uphill arm action topping at 70 mph, best workout pop time of 2.18. Shows soft, strong hands while receiving the baseball throughout the zone. Right handed hitter with a narrow, straight stance and high back elbow set. Compact, clean path to contact with a naturally lifted plane through extension. Drives to baseball to the gaps with good strength at bat speed. Baseball jumps off barrel well with solid carry to the gaps when on time and squared. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity and repetition. Outstanding student as well.
