2005 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Brandon Owens is a 2006 RHP/OF with a 6'3'', 175 lb. frame from Conyers Georgia, who attends Heritage High School. He has a lean and athletic looking body with good projectability. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a loose and lively arm. Owens has a quick arm with good extension out front that helps produce a fastball that topped out at 86 mph. He get very good run on his fastball, and has the ability to dominate hitters. Owens also mixes in a tight curveball with good depth at 73 mph. His curveball can be a strikeout pitch at the next level and is a great compliment to his fastball. He also throws a 77 mph changeup with good arm speed. Owns has control of all three pitches, and has great upside on the mound. At the plate he is a contact hitter with solid bat speed. He turns on the ball well and makes consistent contact. Defensively he shows his arm strength from the outfield, and gets good reads on fly balls. Owens is also a good student who should pitch at the next level.
