P.J. Tobin is a 2021 1B/RHP, 3B with a 6-2 165 lb. frame from Maspeth, NY who attends Archbishop Molloy. Tall frame with long limbs and a lean build. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary first baseman with clean footwork while working around the bag and rounding the baseball. Funnels from a slightly deeper position and worked through exchange efficiently. Released from a compact three-quarters arm slot producing softer, accurate carry to the bag at 71 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an even, slightly crouched stance and simple leg lift trigger. Loose hand path to baseball with a level, line drive barrel plane. Flashed solid feel for the barrel while employing a mid field to opposite field gap approach. Also pitched showing a rock step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays flexed at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Compact arm circle and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball created occasional downward plane sitting in the low 70's, topped at 73 miles per hour. Consistently located fastball to the bottom of the zone showing developing feel for the edges. Curveball had 11/5 shape with looser spin and occasional depth. Did not show curveball offering in game action. Tools will continue to develop with continued maturity and repetition.
