Mark Pope is a 2008 RHP with a 6'2'', 193 lb. frame from Marietta, GA who attends Walton HS. He has a strong, stocky frame and looks closer to 6-0 than 6-2. Pope throws from full windup delivery with good drive to the plate and some effort flying open on release. The energy in the delivery gives some deception to the hitter and doesn't seem to effect Pope's command or consistency. Pope's release point is extended low 3/4's and he gets excellent heavy life on a mid to upper 80's fastball that touched 90 mph. He'll get tons of ground ball outs at all levels with his fastball. His breaking ball is a sweeping curveball in the lower 70's but he profiles as the type who will learn a slider at some time in the future. Pope didn't show a change up but it would be a good pitch for him. Pope's a good athlete who fields his position well, important for a sinker baller, and can swing the bat a bit. He should have immediate success at the college level with his style and command.

Mark Pope is a 2008 RHP/SS with a 6'1'', 180 lb. frame from Marietta GA, who attends Walton HS. He has a lean, athletic build with good core strength. Pope has a compact, balanced delivery with good direction and downward plane to the plate. He has a high 3/4 to overhand release point that he repeats well. Pope's fastball was 84-86 mph and topped out at 88 mph and his 2-seam fastball shwoed good sinking action. His best pitch was a curveball up to 75 mph that showed plus sping and very good depth at times. He can buckle hitter's knees at times with his curveball. Pope also mixed in a couple of change ups. Pope also looked like a very good defensive player on the mound, he has quick feet and good balance and will help himself as a 5th infielder. The best thing about Pope's package is that he has very good feel for his pitches and trusts his stuff. He is in control on the mound and knows what he's doing. College coaches are going to really hone in on him as someone who can pitch and contribute right away. Not surprisingly, Pope also showed good ability as an infielder and as a hitter; he's just a good all around baseball player. Pope was named to the showcase Top Prospect Team
