Austin Schell is a 2017 C/3B with a 5-10 182 lb. frame from Irvine, CA who attends Arnold O. Beckman HS. Medium, athletic build with broad shoulders and present strength throughout well proportioned frame. Ran a 7.62 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, low set behind the plate, wide base in set up, short and tight release from ear with quick and compact arm action, occasionally under throws but accurate to the bag with a quick transfer and release. Right-handed hitter, starts with a wide base and a medium hand set in the box. Short and quick bat path to the ball, hands start away from body and quickly gets the barrel through the zone. Simple timing trigger, shows ability to create backspin at contact, consistent barreled contact with good tempo to swing and strength coming off to the middle of the field. Named to West Coast Top Prospect List. Good student.
