Nicholas Valdez is a 2017 SS/2B with a 5-10 156 lb. frame from Stevenson Ranch, CA who attends West Ranch HS. Medium, athletic frame with a lean, projectable frame and room to fill out. Ran a 7.55 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, quick feet and gets behind the ball well, fields the ball out front, long and athletic strides and comes through the ball well, hands play at ball, good arm strength from multiple arm slots with accuracy. Right-handed hitter, starts with a wide base and high hands and back elbow set. Solid approach in the box, shows a short bat path to the ball, looks to hit the ball out front and occasionally drifts to front side early. Line drive swing plane, exhibits a feel for the barrel and creates line drive contact to the middle and pull side of field with occasional loft and carry off barrel. Very good student.
