Mitchell Winter is a 2019 1B/RHP with a 5-10 235 lb. frame from Rio Rancho, NM who attends Rio Rancho HS. Medium, broad shouldered frame with present strength throughout frame. Primary first baseman, fields the ball out front and hands play at the ball, short steps moving towards the ball with a compact arm action, lower slot on throws across diamond and shows accuracy, balanced while charging in. Also pitched, works from a lower three-quarter to sidearm release point, full arm stroke through the back side. Mostly upper body used at release, front side opens early but helps generate two-seam life to fastball up to 74 mph, flashed a short breaking ball at 63 mph. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a high back elbow and high hand set away from body, upright and even stance with a simple shift moving into contact. Short and quick swing path to the ball and through the zone, looks to pull the ball with a line drive swing plane. Front shoulder occasionally opens early, creates line drive contact and shows carry off the barrel when squared. Very good student.
