Roberto Merced is a 2017 SS with a 6-0 155 lb. frame from Springfield, MO who attends Kickapoo HS. Roberto has a good, lean build at present with excellent body projection for added build and growth. At bat, Roberto sets up with an upright, slightly open stance with a high hand set, then loads with a toe tap trigger and displays loose hands as he fires the barrel through the zone. He employs a line drive swing plane, focused on spraying liners to all fields depending on where the ball is pitched. In the field, Roberto shows good projection as a shortstop. He has soft hands that field the ball with ease, athletic actions and quickness, and solid arm strength with online and accurate throws. Projects very well in the infield. Very good student.
