Matt Pelzer is a 2016 MIF/3B/RHP with a 5-7 157 lb. frame from Bennett, IA who attends Tipton HS. Compact, athletic frame with present strength and projection for more. Hits from slightly open stance with toe tap trigger, hip stays open through load and stride, drops hands into load, shows good bat speed through the zone, hits consistently up the middle. Will get off balance at times during swing. Shows good footwork in defensive drills with quickness to both sides, short arm action with solid strength across the diamond, topping at 76 MPH on throws. Pitched as well, working with drop and drive mechanics with short arm action to 3/4 slot with a 3 pitch mix of FB/SL/CH. Uses lower half well and generates good drive to the plate, solid arm speed, fastball worked in the high 70's topping out at 80 with good life to the arm side. Straight changeup was thrown with good deception and velocity separation; shorter slider that worked more like a cutter with good horizontal life. Showed ability to pound the zone with all 3 pitches and command the fastball well. Very good student.
