2005 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Johnson is a 5-7, 145 lb switch hitting second baseman from North Carolina with good present strength for his size. He was one of the stars of the showcase with his performance in the games, where he singled his first 7 trips to the plate before finally making out his last 2 appearences. Johnson is a 7.14 runner in the 60 with quick actions on the field. He runs hard on the bases and will steal a base for you. Defensively, Johnson is perfectly suited tool and skill wise for second base. His quickness gives him good range in both directions and while his arm strength is a bit short, his release is quick and his throws accurate. Offensively, Johnson obviously shows the ability to square up on the ball from both sides of the plate. He has a short, quick swing and stays back on the ball very well. He isn't going to hit for much power but he will hit for a high average and hit the ball to all fields. Johnson also does all the little things to help a team win. He should be a very good college player and how high he plays collegeately depends on which coach falls in love with his style and skills. He's a very good student.
