2015 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Nicholas Fischer is a 2017 LHP/1B with a 6-5 215 lb. frame from Courtland, MN who attends Valley Lutheran HS. Very good size with XL frame, broad shoulders and long limbs, highly projectable physically with good present strength. Throws from high 3/4-near overtop slot on the mound, generating big plane due to slot and height. Mostly upper body thrower, lacks lower half usage in delivery. Throws strikes consistently but often works up in the zone. Threw 90% fastballs, working in the mid 70's and topping at 78. Slight life to the arm side on fastball. Showed downer CB in the 66-68 range, shape between 12/6 and 1/7, good depth and shape but spin got a bit loose at times. At bat, hits from slightly closed and slightly crouched stance. Drops hands into load and swings with a slight uppercut. Hits to all fields with solid bat speed. Lacks weight transfer at present, swing can get long due to length of limbs. Worked out at 1B, showing solid arm strength across the diamond with obviously good size for the position. Fields well, footwork around the bag looked hesitant at times. Very good student.
