Joshua Nichols is a 2016 LHP/1B with a 6-3 203 lb. frame from Cherokee, IA who attends Washington. Long lean frame with developing strength. Left handed pitcher with an exaggerated overtop arm slot and a high leg lift at balance. Simple delivery with repeatable tall and fall mechanics. Creates some downhill angle with fastball the generates slight sinking action and occasional cut. Fastball ranged from 69-71 mph. Tends to stay tall at release point, potential increased velocity with improved arm extenstion on release. Curveball has 1/7 shape with some loopy depth, topped at 61 mph. Tends to fall off to third base side on offspeed delivery. Shows command to each side of the plate and primarily pitches to contact. Effectively missed barrels was able to keep hitter off balance. Left handed hitter with rotational mechanics and keeps weight on back side throughout swing. Tends to throw bat head out front aggresively with a pull side approach. Worked out defensively from 1B. Solid fundamental footwork while surrounding the baseball and has a long arm action. Topped at 67 mph across the infield. Funnels groundballs deep stiff glove actions. Tools will continue to develop with fluidity. Good student as well.
