2015 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Jacob Gregg is a 2016 RHP/2B, OF with a 6-4 170 lb. frame from Lakewood, CA who attends Long Beach Poly HS. Extra-large, athletic frame with long limbs, projects well with plenty of room to fill out with additional strength. Ran a 7.88 60-yard dash. Primary right-handed pitcher, short arm action through the back side with a tight three-quarter arm slot at release. Deliberate tempo to delivery with pause at top of balance point, gets across body at times but remains balanced. Fastball topped out at 82 mph, showed downhill plane when on top with occasional late life to arm side down in the zone. Curveball shows 11-5 shape with sweeping life and nice lateral movement. Shows a strong arm in the outfield, fields the ball out front, shows present carry with accuracy to intended base. Similar short arm action across the infield, lower slot, has the feel to make throws from multiple arm slots. Right-handed hitter, start with a high hand set and a slightly open lower half. Upper body swing, line drive swing plane with a nice and short path to the ball, especially for size. Gets closed with stride, creates line drive contact up the middle with some extension out front.
