2020 South Top Prospect Games at Texas A&M
Carson Szeder is a 2021 LHP/OF with a 5-10 190 lb. frame from Rocklin, CA who attends Whitney HS. Carson is a sound athlete who shows a solid understanding of the game and his abilities. His effort level is commendable and he displays a toughness and grit usually not seen at this level. In addition to his outstanding hustle and determination on the diamond, Carson is a top flight student. A primary LHP, Carson utilizes a four pitch mix that is highlighted by his active 79-83 mph fastball that shows consistent arm side run and heavy sink at the plate. He works with a fairly simple operation that allows him to repeat his mechanics routinely. His 3/4 arm slot and quick arm action combined with his leg lift and hip turn add to his deception. He compliments his well-commanded heater with a 73 mph, 1/7 slider that he likes to throw to the back foot of RHH and break away from LHH. The slider is his swing and miss, out pitch, to lefties. His 65 mph, true 12/6 breaking curveball, is a plus pitch that he could probably use more. It's deceptive speed and sharp break produce weak swings. His 72 mph change-up is tunneled from his fastball slot and is a tough, especially, on RHH. Carson certainly has the tools and mental make-up to pitch at the next level. At the plate, Carson doesn't get cheated. There is some glide to his stride and he shows some natural strength in his swing. He has more of an inside-out plane and shows an ability to drive the ball especially well up the middle and to the opposite field.
