Carson Podell is a 2020 RHP/OF with a 6-0 165 lb. frame from Roswell, GA who attends River Ridge HS. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional strength. Primary right handed pitcher who worked exclusively from the stretch. Medium leg lift and stays slightly flexed on back side at gather. Worked to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Compact arm circle straight back and released from an extended three-quarters slot. Fastball produced some riding life with occasional sink to the bottom of the zone in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 81 miles per hour. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with a curveball offering that produced looser 11/5 shape in the low 50's. Also flashed a knuckleball that generated some flutter through the zone in the low 60's. Consistently looked to challenge hitters displaying developing feel for the zone. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing smooth paced, deliberate footwork to and through the baseball. Taps at exchange and maintained momentum to target while releasing from a lower three-quarters slot. Throws produced uphill carry to the bag topping at 80 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and simple leg lift trigger. Created some linear shift into contact with lower half. Clean hand path to baseball with a naturally lifted plane through extension. Primarily looked to work the ball to the middle of the field but flashed the hand speed to turn the barrel and work to pull side as well. Excellent student.
