LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 California Uncommitted Showcase
Frank Pearson is a 2007 RHP with a 5'11'', 216 lb. frame from Chula Vista CA, who attends Eastlake HS. He has a broad, big bone type build that is capable of being developed into a powerful body. Pearson had very good success in this showcase; tossing 3 innings while giving up 0 runs, 0 hits, and striking out 3 hitters. He got those results due to his pitchability and ability to mix his pitches. He pitches from a high 3/4 slot and has a short arm stroke that allows him to hide the ball from the hitters' view longer than most pitchers can. His arm speed is average but he does pitch with easy effort, so there are likely some velocity spikes in his future. The longer his outing went, the better he got. Pearson's fastball topped at 79 mph and sat in the upper 70s. He showed the ability to both ride and sink his fastball, allowing him to pitch in two effective planes with that one pitch. He gets on top of the fastball well and is able to control his release point. As for his secondary stuff, Peason featured a curveball that had good spin, with some rolling action depth. He also showed a change-up. He knows what to do with the baseball and has feel, now it is a matter of him being able to gain some strength and power, while maintaining that feel of the ball.
