Matt Martin is a 2019 OF/RHP, MIF, 2B with a 5-7 135 lb. frame from Mount Vernon, IA who attends Mount Vernon. Compact frame with a lean build. Projects for additional strength with continued maturity. Primary outfielder with aggressive footwork while closing to and working through the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling with quick exchanges while working through transition. Crated good momentum to the bag while releasing from a three-quarters slot. Throws produced on line carry to the bag topping at 77 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and deep hand load. Coils hands slightly at load and works to contact on a loose path. Barrel came through the zone on a level, line drive plane. Flashed some feel for the barrel and looked to work the ball between the gaps. Projects for additional bat speed with continued physical development. Also pitched utilizing a smooth paced side step delivery. Medium leg lift and stays balanced at gather. Utilized lower half well with drop and drive actions to the plate. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball had slightly running action to arm side in the low 70's, topped at 73 miles per hour. Curveball showed 10/5 shape with loose spin and some depth in the low 60's. Also flashed a changeup offering that had run to arm side with occasional sink. Maintained arm speed with changeup created good deception. Consistently filled the strike zone and effectively changed speeds in positive and negative counts. Good student as well.
