2005 California Top Prospect Showcase
Carlton Steudeman is a 2006 C/OF from Albany HS, residing in Albany, CA, with a 6'2", 175 lb. frame. With a long and strong body, including long arms, Steudeman has potential to create a lot of leverage in his swing, especially if he can loosen up his grip. With his no-stride approach, Steudeman has the ability to use the opposite field well. With better rhythm and more repetitions, he will enhance his offensive tools. Steudeman has strong hands as a receiver and understands how to frame a pitch, though he does need to continue to look for opportunities to catch more pitchers with D1 caliber stuff. He puts forth good effort to block and will occassionally flash some catch and throw ability. He is a better thrower in the games than in a workout scenario. He has not caught for very long so his footwork and arm stroke lack consistency. But he works hard behind the plate and is a follow type prospect. More development time at the JC level would be a good thing for Steudeman.
