Erik Johnson is a 2008 RHP/3B with a 6'3'', 200 lb. frame from Los Altos, CA who attends Los Altos HS. He has a power pitcher's body, with good body strength and long and loose limbs. Johnson has a low effort delivery with good extension out front over his front leg. He'll occasionally fall of to first base. Johnson's fastball was very consistently in the 90-92 mph range with some late sink and run to it. He threw a slurve type curveball at 78 mph that had very good depth at times and was a solid secondary pitch for him. He also mixed in a couple of 81 mph change ups. Johnson's arm strength and easy fastball velocity make him a pitcher that scouts' can dream about. He is a good student who has a verbal commitment to Cal Berkeley.

Erik Johnson is a 2008 RHP/3B with a 6'3'', 200 lb. frame from Los Altos CA, who attends Los Altos HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. He has a power pitcher's build and likely is not done filling out. Johnson possesses some two-way ability, but his future is on the mound. Interestingly enough, he topped at 87 in this event but the following weekend in Arizona he went above 90 mph a few times. He didn't warm up in the pen very long, perhaps that was the cause of the lower velocity. In any case, he is a power pitching prospect. Johnson creates good leverage with his arm stroke and should continue gaining velocity. His fastball is pretty hot through the zone and has some downward action. A power sinker could be in his future. He spins the curveball (73 mph) well too. When he takes his time over the rubber, his stuff is really good. Offensively he does have some power, to all fields. The ball gets off his bat well and he has some bat speed. He is a timing type hitter who can punish mistakes. Defensively he moves pretty well at 3B, though as a position player he likely would have to move to 1B. Johnson is a strong student and a good D1 and professional pitching prospect.
