Robert Reid is a 2006 LHP/OF from Mililani HS, residing in Mililani, HI with a 5'11" 165 lb. frame. Reid has a lean and athletic body type and a good delivery. He pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot with a sling type arm action. Starting with a high leg kick, Reid incorporates some rhythm and athleticism in his delivery, a good indication of some future velocity gains because it means Reid has an understanding of how to use his body. He gets to decent front side extension, but there are gains he can make with more front side stability and leverage. His fastball has good arm side run and some sink that comes from his 3/4 arm slot. Though thrown with curveball velocity, Reid's breaking ball is actually a slider with good lateral action. Frankly, it is his best pitch because hitters feel as though they can size it up pretty well, but the movement is late enough and subtle enough that Reid can use the slider to get a lot of poorly struck balls in play. He also has a straight change-up as his third pitch. A decent athlete, Reid fields his position well. He throws a lot of strikes with the fastball and competes inside, including against left handers. Reid has some pitchability too. As a hitter, Reid starts with his hands low and takes them on an uphill path into the zone. He is fairly short to the ball and creates some top spin. In the outfield the ball exits his hand well and he throws accurately. Reid approaches the ball under control and gets good jumps. His best college position is on the mound and he will help a college staff, likely at the small college level.
