Adam Wells is a 2006 C/3B from Leigh HS, residing in San Jose, CA, with a 5'11", 180 lb. frame. He has a thick, strong build which can be characterized as a durable catcher-type body. Wells has a short swing and is quick to inner half. He makes a good decisive move to the ball and maintains good balance in his swing. Wells has some ability as a spray hitter with some gap pop. He makes consistent contact and shows some bat speed. As he continues to progress as a hitter, expect him to bang a few balls out of the yard. Behind the plate Wells blocks and smothers the ball well. He has a short arm stroke that can be an asset for the throwing part of his game. He has good hands and an efficient, if not a quick, exchange. He generally made accurate throws. Wells got of the crouch well and did a nice job of making plays on pop-ups. He is a good student and is capable of being a quality back-up early in his college baseball career, a very necessary role that most young catchers must spend time in.
